Bluefire Reader: The Ultimate E-Reading App for Android, iOS, and Windows

Bluefire Reader is an e-book reader application for Android (superseded by Cloudshelf Reader), iOS[1][2] and Windows[3][4] operating systems that supports white-labelling. It supports the EPUB and PDF formats for digital publications and incorporates facilities for browsing online catalogs, and downloading them directly into the user's personal library. The application features a library that lets users navigate their collection of eBooks, as well as provides a customizable reading experience through configurable font and background color, font size and type, margin size, display brightness, page turn mode, etc. Additionally, the application allows users to import their own books to read them on the go.[citation needed]

If you are using an Apple device (iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad) using a web-browser, you can download an ebook in PDF or ePub format protected with Adobe Digital Rights Management (DRM) to the Apple device using the Bluefire Reader app.

Using an Apple device, navigate to the EBook Central ebook using your web-browser. When you are reading the ebook online in the Online Reader click the small download icon up top. The ebook will then be automatically downloaded to the Bluefire Reader app. You will then be able to read the downloaded ebook on the Apple device for the checkout period you selected (from 1 - 7 days).

The process outlined above does not require the intermediate step of downloading the ebook to Adobe Digital Editions and then transferring from there to the Apple device as is possible via the process outlined in the box below. Thus the process is greatly simplified.

Select your preferred checkout period and click Checkout & Download. The ebook will be added to the Checkouts area of the folder. The Ebooks on EBSCOHost ebook will then be automatically downloaded to the Bluefire Reader app. You will then be able to read the downloaded ebook on the Apple device for however long the download period was which you selected.

Assuming you have downloaded and installed Adobe Digital Editions on your computer and have added the Bluefire Reader app to your Apple device, and authorized both with the same Adobe ID, you will be able to transfer ebooks to your Apple device via iTunes.

If you are using an Android device using a web-browser you can download an EBL or Ebooks on EBSCOHost ebook in PDF or ePub format protected with Adobe Digital Rights Management (DRM) to the Android device using the Bluefire Reader app.

Simply install the Bluefire Reader app on your Android device. The first time you download an ebook to the Bluefire Reader app you will be prompted to authorize the app with your Adobe ID (you only need to do this once). Then, if you wish to download any Adobe DRM protected ebook direct to your Android device, look for a Download (or similar) button for the ebook in your web-browser and click on it. The ebook should then download to the Bluefire Reader app. As given here (see the question 'What is the maximum number of computers and devices that I can authorize?' you are able to download or transfer the same ebook to up to 6 computers and devices.

Using an Android device navigate to the EBook Central ebook using your web-browser. When you are reading the ebook online in the EBook Central Online Reader click the small download icon up top. The ebook will then be automatically downloaded to the Bluefire Reader app. You will then be able to read the downloaded ebook on the Android device for the length of the checkout period you selected.

Select your preferred checkout period and click Checkout & Download. The ebook will be added to the Checkouts area of the folder. The Ebooks on EBSCOHost ebook will then be automatically downloaded to the Bluefire Reader app. You will then be able to read the downloaded ebook on the Android device for however long the download period was which you selected.

Please note: You will only need to install BlueFire and create an Adobe Digital Editions ID once. After this has been done, you will only need to tap Download any time you wish to download and read an eBook on your device.

How to use it: When you find an eBook in a library database, select "Download" (you may need to sign in to your HPU or EBSCO account as well) and send the download to the appropriate device.

I have disabled the firewall and anything else which might be a problem (such as my anonymizer). I can download on my desktop computer, but I am more likely to read on my tablet so I want to find a solution to this problem.

For people who love to read but don't have a lot of extra cash to spend on books, nothing beats the public library. (Thanks Ben Franklin!) Even better, in recent years, many libraries have started offering e-books that you can check out for a few weeks, just like the real thing. Unfortunately, despite the plethora of e-book readers in the App Store, you couldn't read these DRM-protected library titles on your iPhone, iPod, or iPad.

For starters, you need a library card and/or an online account with your local library. When we signed into mine, the \"ebook\" section listed only NetLibrary (which has a pretty weak selection) as a download source. However, we remembered previously downloading audiobooks via OverDrive--a service that also carries e-books.

Sure enough, when we clicked through, we were able to browse and download from OverDrive's much larger e-book selection. (It's where we scored the two aforementioned titles.) Your mileage may vary, but we suspect that's where most libraries will lead you.

Before you can actually read any downloaded book, you'll need to install Adobe Digital Editions (available free for Windows and Mac OS). With that step done, you can download your library book--which you'll need to open at least once in Digital Editions before you can transfer it to Bluefire Reader. And to do that, you'll use iTunes' \"sideloading\" feature. Check out Bluefire's help page for complete instructions.

For some considerable time, I have been using the app Blue Fire Reader on my iPad, to read e-books and other material. The normal pathway to my iPad has been to download an e-book to my desktop computer, upload it to Dropbox on that computer and then access my Dropbox files on the iPad, using the Dropbox app for Apple products.

In the Dropbox app on the iPad, when selecting the options actionable with the particular e-book in question and clicking "Export", a list of places to send the e-book opens. In the past, Blue Fire Reader has appeared in this list, and it has been a simple process of selecting it to export the e-book from the Dropbox app to the reader.

Thanks everything seems to be up to date. The odd thing is that when I select any another e-book title previously downloaded to Dropbox (which has also previously already been Exported to Blue Fire Reader) and choose "Export", the BFR option is available, as in the past!

I'm incredibly sorry to say that I think I have wasted your time, and that of anyone else who has looked at my post! In trying some of the options you recently suggested, I noticed for the first time that the book file I have been having trouble with is actually a MOBI file! Yes, I know! I said it was ePub. In my pathetic defence, I see that the file tag is not visible at the end of the string, in the folder on my desktop I downloaded the ebook to originally, and in uploading it to Dropbox, I then missed that the tag was MOBI. Since I never deal with MOBI files, it is a case of my eyes seeing (or not seeing) what I wanted to see, despite thinking I had "looked properly", if you know what I mean!

eBooks can be downloaded and read using an Apple device (iPhone, iPod, or iPad) using the Bluefire reading app available for free from iTunes. Use the following steps if your device does not have a wireless connection and you will be using your computer to transfer the eBook.

Bluefire apps are designed for discerning readers. Your apps come with a full set of active reading features including bookmarking, highlighting, note taking, dictionary lookup, contextual search, sharing, and more. Our apps also support a rich set of customizable reading and display settings.
